What’s harder?

January 30th, 2008 by Olie

“I don’t know what’s harder, the young ones, 19, 20, 21, who barely had a chance to live, or the older guys, in their 30s and 40s, who leave wives and children behind.”

-Ann Bender referring to the Iraq war, Time magazine 2007 Nov 11

October 13th, 2007 by Olie

A year ago today, many families were reunited with their Marines from 1st Battallion, 14th Marines after a long deployment to Iraq.  I was one of the many that was there to welcome my significant other home.  I can still recall the moment I saw him walk into the room.  Screaming at the top of my lungs, I ran and jumped on him as tears ran down my face.

But as today marks one year, they are scheduled to be activated once again, and be deployed early next year.  Here I go again getting ready for another deployment.  Another year without my other half.  Another year of halted vacations.  Another year of sleepless nights.  And another year into the unknown.  I’m trying my very best not to show it, but I am beyond scared, and he doesn’t even have his papers yet.  So just imagine when he does….

OMG.

September 7th, 2007 by Olie

So, we’re driving on Wolfe Road when we see a cop car and a tow truck.  We were all thinking it was just a minor accident.  But as we drive closer and pass it by, we see the tow guy filling the stranded van with gas!  How can you let your car run out of gas like that?  Freakin’ ridiculous!!

Raiders preseason game

August 14th, 2007 by Olie

I have never been to a sports game before so I had no clue what expect.  This was my first and not only did I get to step on the field, but got access to the VIP clubroom as well.  It wasn’t easy getting in there, but it was a quite an experience.  I can’t wait to attend a season game! Knowing members of the Marine Corps can do great wonders. Thanks guys!

….

June 10th, 2007 by Olie

I knew there was a 50/50 chance that he’d have to head back over to that damn place again, but never thought I’d hear about another deployment this soon.  Something in his eyes and voice told me he wasn’t joking when he relayed the news he received from his commanders yesterday.  I honestly don’t know if I can handle another deployment.  I mean, one is already hard enough.  But then again, there are other families out there who have been though 4 or 5 deployments so who am I to complain?

I love my United States Marine and will continue to stand by him no matter what.  Love you very much, hun!
